  10.        This release note describes patch SG0000029 to IRIX 5.2.

  14.        This patch contains bug fixes for all hardware
  15.        configurations that run IRIX 5.2.

  19.        This patch contains fixes for the following bugs in IRIX
  20.        5.2.  Bug numbers from Silicon Graphics bug tracking system
  21.        are included for reference.

  23.           +o The _t_t_y_n_a_m_e(3) call can return two different answers
  24.             depending on inode assignment.
  25.  
  26.           +o There is a bug in the _u_s_s_e_t_l_o_c_k(3P) routine in _l_i_b_c
  27.             that can cause parallel applications to livelock.
  28.             Under some conditions an application thread busy-waits
  29.             on a spinlock forever without surrendering the cpu to
  30.             allow the lock owner to release it.  The bug only
  31.             affects Challenge and Onyx (bug 196622).

  33.           +o At most 524 processes can attach to the same shared
  34.             arena even if _u_s_c_o_n_f_i_g(3P) is used to set a larger
  35.             value for CONF_INITUSERS (bug 215157).

  48.        Because you want to install patches for only the problems
  49.        you have encountered, patch software is not installed by
  50.        default. After reading the descriptions of the bugs fixed in
  51.        this patch, determine the patches that meet your specific
  52.        needs.

  54.        Patch software is installed like any other Silicon Graphics
  55.        software product.  It must be installed from the miniroot.
  56.        Follow the instructions in your _I_R_I_S _S_o_f_t_w_a_r_e _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n
  57.        _G_u_i_d_e to bring up the miniroot form of the software
  58.        installation tools.

  74.        Follow these steps to select a patch for installation:

  76.          1.  At the Inst>prompt, type

  89.              incompatible.  If this occurs, you must deselect one
  90.              of the patches.

  102.        To remove a patch, use the _v_e_r_s_i_o_n_s _r_e_m_o_v_e command as you
  103.        would for any other software subsystem.  The removal process
  104.        reinstates the original version of software unless you have
  105.        specifically removed the patch history from your system.
